Symptoms Of Addiction
It can begin to impact your job, relationships, and overall life. Addictions — whether Substance Addictions (such as alcohol or drugs) or Behavioural Addictions (like gambling, shopping, pornography, sex, or workaholism) — often conceal underlying health issues such as depression or anxiety. Choosing to be high, intoxicated, or excessively engaged in a compulsive behaviour may indicate that you are avoiding confronting something within yourself.
Under “Symptoms of Addiction,” it’s important to recognise that behavioural addiction symptoms can mirror those of substance addiction — including obsessive thoughts, loss of control, neglect of responsibilities, irritability when unable to engage in the behaviour, and continued involvement despite negative consequences.
Stepping away from your substance or behaviour of choice might help clarify what actions need to be taken. If you have concerns, consider these questions:
Daily Programme
Each day follows a balanced routine designed to support healing, personal growth, and recovery. The mornings begin early with light activity to energise the body and mind, followed by a nutritious breakfast.
Throughout the day, clients take part in a combination of individual consultations, group sessions, and therapeutic activities focused on life skills, creativity, and self-reflection. There are regular breaks for tea and coffee, and time is set aside for relaxation and independent reading.
Afternoons may include exercise or alternative therapies to promote physical and emotional well-being, with weekends offering more flexible free time and visiting hours.
Evenings are spent sharing a wholesome meal and winding down before lights out, ensuring a full night’s rest to prepare for the day ahead.
Community And Workplace Issues
Addiction can have a profound impact on every aspect of life, both personally and professionally. In the workplace, it often leads to decreased productivity and increased absenteeism, as individuals struggle to maintain focus and consistency. Many begin to experience isolation and withdrawal, distancing themselves from colleagues and loved ones, which in turn causes a negative impact on overall morale.
The risks also extend to accidents and errors, sometimes even resulting in theft or fraud as desperation grows. Over time, addiction can give rise to legal issues and significantly increase healthcare costs, placing a heavy burden on both the individual and the organisation.
